2030 Olympics chief Grospiron steps down

Edgar Grospiron has stepped down as president of the organising committee for the 2030 French Alps Winter Olympics, 18 months after his appointment, in the latest setback for a project that has been marked by repeated senior departures and governance disputes. His departure was formalised at a meeting of the committee's executive board on Thursday. The organising committee, known as COJOP, said in a statement that his decision to leave was part of a deliberate, organised and fully assumed transition, taken in the interests of the project and its governance, and reflected a shared desire with stakeholders to enable the organisation to quickly enter a new operational phase. Grospiron, who won moguls gold at the 1992 Albertville Winter Games, confirmed his exit in a post on LinkedIn, writing that after several months of tension within the organising committee, he had drawn the conclusion that the conditions were not met for him to continue. The International Olympic Committee acknowledged his resignation and thanked him for what it called his crucial work in laying the foundations for the success of the Games.
